Miami Mailmen, A Way To Fix The NBA Draft
You know; the Miami Heat could at least make it less obvious that they are mailing in this season. My Pat Riley post wasn’t even cold yet, when the Heat announced that Dwyane Wade would be sitting out the rest of the season to get work done on his knee. I’m not doubting that Wade’s hurt; anyone who watched him play this year knows that he’s hurt and that he has been hurt all season. What I’m calling into question is the timing of it.
I really wish that instead of helping and rewarding the worst teams, that the NBA instead rewarded those teams that were on the bubble of making the NBA playoffs. Instead of the worst teams getting more balls in the mix, why not let those teams that were just a hair short this season, maybe get a shot at a player that could take them over the hump. That way even those teams that may be out of the playoffs, would be playing hard at the end of the season trying to work their way up to that high draft pick, instead of mailing things in like Boston did last year and the Heat are doing this year. I’m no genius, but I hate it that teams that have no idea how to run their franchises, get to ruin and waste the talents of some of the best young college players.
I doubt that I’m the first person to have this idea, but I think that it’s definitely better than the current system, just because it increases the incentive for teams to play through to the end.
Don’t reward losers.
