Like All High-Priced Yankee Free Agents, Billy Crystal Strikes Out In Yankees Debut
If you needed more proof that the Yankees will sign anybody, just witness today; as they let Billy Crystal lead off for them in today’s spring training game against the Pirates.
Hell, Crystal did better than I would have. He managed to run the count to 3-2 and get a piece of one before fouling it off. That’s more than Bobby Abreu managed to do the entire first half of last season.
If you’re the Pirates’ pitcher, aren’t you just a little bit tempted to toss one at Billy’s melon? Not a heater or anything, just as a lark. You might as well have hit him, Paul Maholm; because if he’d screwed around and blooped one off of you into center field, you would have forever been known as the guy who got tagged by Mr. Saturday Night. And trust me pal, that’s alot worse than getting linked to BALCO, HGH, or even going to church with Dana Jacobson.
