Soccer Player Beaned By Bottle
When I decided to do this site, I never gave much consideration to soccer (actually I still don’t), but I appear to have greatly underestimated the amount of craziness that is associated with the “most popular sport everywhere else”. In the last week I’ve had:
A soccer player struck by lightning.
A naughty female streaker, or two.
And today’s gem, is a soccer player (once again don’t know the name or the game, once again I do not care) getting beaned in the head by a bottle and dropping like a hooker in front of Eliot Spitzer. I thought at first that he got hit by a plastic bottle, but then I saw the blood, and figured that even soccer players are tougher than that, so I’m figuring it was glass.
If there are any other sports bloggers who read this site, I’d like some input. Is soccer always this fertile a ground for lunacy? I still have no appreciation for the sport, but I do have an appreciation for the amount of material that the sport supplies.

Soccer’s crazy. Not that I ever watch or think about it, but I hear a lot of stories about fan riots and what not.

I’d always heard about the riots, but I’d never really paid any attention to the general insanity of everything else. There are like four crazy soccer stories every day.

Soccer is the most popluar sport in the world. You probably dont like the sport becasue you have never played it as well as cant understand the athleticism needed to play at the level that some of these athletes play at. Maybe you write about sports because you were the kid who always got picked last in gym class and had no other way of being involved with any kind of sport than to sit at your computer and make assanine comments like the ones in your blurb above.

Maybe so. Maybe so. But I do have the co-ordination to use a spell check, and it’s asinine, not assanin, so if you’re going to insult someone please use the items that are available so that you can sound somewhat intelligent. And please, the old “that person doesn’t like my sport, so they must have never been picked to play anything,” card is played out. I mentioned that soccer is the most popular sport in the world, that goes without saying. But there is no one with a reasonable brain who will not agree that it’s not achieved any measure of popularity in the United States. That’s just the way it is.
