Who Says Kickers Aren’t Aggressive?
Cue sinister music. A plan is afoot to push Gene Upshaw out as leader of the NFL Player’s Union. The leader? Baltimore kicker Matt Stover. Stover wrote an email to other player representatives, and outlined the need for a change of leadership. According to ESPN:
In his e-mail, a copy of which has been obtained by ESPN, Stover revealed a conference call among player reps on Friday in which he said, “I was on that conference call and I am not the only rep who listened and felt that it is time for a change.”
ESPN has a copy of Stover’s email here.
There’s no truth to the rumor that Upshaw has had a horse’s head sent to Stover’s house in retaliation. Nor is there any truth to the rumor that Upshaw said, “Kicker? A kicker wants some of me? You’ve gotta be f’n joking! I’ll break his f’n leg” and then went back to making fun of a crippled former player, by dragging a steak on a string in front of him while saying, “if you really wanted it you’d crawl faster”.
