Bill Buckner Comes Home To Boston
I’m no Sox fan as the three people who read this site on a consistent basis know, but I do think that it was great the Bill Buckner was invited back into the hearts of Red Sox fans by being invited to throw out the first pitch in the Red Sox game vs the Tigers on Tuesday. While many people forget that Buckner returned to the team in 1990 and played, there is no doubt about the shadow that his infamous error in the 1986 World Series, cast over his career. Buckner’s name became synonymous with choking, and Red Sox fans and media made Buckner just another in a long list of reasons why Boston was cursed. Now, after two World Series championships, Buckner is being brought back, and forgiven.
I think I might have told them to stick it up their ass. But he didn’t, he took the high road, and the Boston fans made it a great moment for Buckner, who can hopefully now move on mentally from that one bad play, that has caused a very good career to be largely ignored because of misplaced blame.
