Japanese High School Pitcher Gives Up 66 Runs
In 1 1/3 innings. Ouch.
According to YahooSports:
The coach of Kawamoto technical high school threw in the towel to spare his pitcher’s arm with his team losing 66-0 with just one batter out in the bottom of the second.
The hapless hurler had already sent down over 250 pitches, allowing 26 runs in the first inning and 40 in the second before Kawamoto asked for mercy.
“At that pace the pitcher would have thrown around 500 pitches in four innings,” Kawamoto’s coach was quoted as saying. “There was a danger he could get injured.”
Like this didn’t already injure him? Good thing he’s Japanese, because the way we coddle our kids here in the States, this guy would be in therapy tomorrow, and pimped out by his parents on Dr. Phil by Thursday.
It was so bad a beating that the score was changed to show a 9-0 victory instead of the slaughter that it was. I do have one question and I believe that it’s a good one. Has the coach ever heard of a freaking reliever? You left this kid out there to get just completely blasted and then act like you did something great by throwing in the towel? It was 66-0!
I have been unable to determine whether or not the kid’s last name is Japanese for Mussina. No, wait, Mussina hasn’t thrown 250 pitches in the last three years combined, no way he’s related to this kid.
