Brandon Webb’s Gotta Be Tired Of Winning All The Time
Thank you for the salute Brandon, but I have to argue, it is you and not I who is number one.
Brandon continued his one-man war against losing on Thursday, pitching a complete game in the Diamondbacks’ 8-3 beating of the Philadelphia Phillies. Webb moved his record to a best in world, 8-0. It’s no surprise that Webb is good, the guy did win the NL Cy Young in ‘06, but starting 8-0 and making ever hitter that faces him, look like post-steroid Jason Giambi, is just ridiculous. It’s too bad that we don’t get to see what Webb can do against better hitters more often. Take Albert Pujols out of the NL, and you’ve got nothing but scrappy players and a veggie burger eating Prince Fielder. You could take the line-ups of the Tigers, Red Sox, and Yankees, and you would only be able to find spots for maybe six of the NL’s top hitters on them. Everyone would take Fielder, Albert, and maybe Chipper Jones, but after that, there’s a real fall-off in terms of hitting and star power.
It’s too bad for Webb, who’s a legitimate ace on anyone’s staff, that he doesn’t have the opportunity to face real hitting until the inter-league games and the playoffs come around. But, I’m sure until then he’ll be making fat chicks smile in National League cities everywhere, as he sends mediocre-millionaires searching for their local slump-buster, in sad, feeble attempts to hit his stuff. Hate to break it guys, you’re still going to strike out against Webb, you’re still going to wake up next to a fat chick, and no matter how many times you go to that clinic, the nurse is still going to smile and say, “still in that slump?”.
