To be blunt, Michael Phelps just punked the Olympics.  How good are you when you’ve got LeBron James and Kobe Bryant there to watch you? I watched Phelps win his eighth gold medal and was happy for him.  Happy for him until the point when I realized that Phelps was better at swimming than I was ever going to be at anything in my life.  Then I got a little down.

But, I cheered up when I saw that WGN is going to have a Mork and Mindy marathon next week.

So, I guess my life doesn’t suck so bad after all.  But there’s no doubt that Phelps’ life continues to just get better and better. Phelps was once again dominant, and he had help from his friends in securing his eight gold medal with a victory in the 4×100-meter medley relay .  How impressive has Phelps been in this Olympics?  Check this out from the NY Times:

How fabulous was Phelps’s feat? At Sunday’s start, the Person’s Republic of Phelps would have ranked fourth in gold medals and been ahead of all but 14 countries in the medal count.

Phelps isn’t just beating other swimmers, he’s beating other countries.  Lots of them.  Michael Phelps is a weapon of mass destruction.

There was a reason that the other guys on the relay team were trying so hard to win.  It wasn’t just the gold medal.  It was the fear of knowing that if one of them screwed up, that Michael Phelps would have to snap their neck.  With extreme prejudice.

Because Michael Phelps doesn’t accept weakness or failure.  And he loves winning like a fat kid loves cake.  Believe it.
