Olympian Kicks Referee In The Face
From the depths of China, comes the sound of sweet chin music.
From the “God, these guys make my job so damn easy” category. An olympic martial artist (taekwondo to be exact) and his coach have been banned from competition after disagreeing with being disqualified in his bronze medal match. What did he do you may ask?
He kicked the referee in the face. I repeat, he kicked the referee in the face. From ESPN:
Matos was declared the loser for taking too much injury time after hurting his leg during the men’s over-80 kg (176 pounds) match against Kazakhstan’s Arman Chilmanov. Fighters get one minute, and Matos was disqualified when his time ran out.
“He was too strict,” Gonzalez said, referring to the decision to disqualify Matos.
Matos angrily questioned the call, pushed a judge, then pushed and kicked referee Chakir Chelbat of Sweden. Matos then spat on the floor and was escorted out.
Matos won the gold medal in this division at the 2000 Sydney Games, dedicating the victory to his mother, who died on the day of the opening ceremony. At the 2004 Athens Games, he finished 11th.
Well, I’m sure mom would have been proud of this. It’s times like this that really get me ticked that NBC is being such video-nazis. How many of you want to see the video of this? That’s what I thought, but it’s not going to happen here, because even if I did find it, it would be pulled in like three minutes. But, back to the assault.
At least his coach isn’t an enabler or anything. Oh, wait, yes he is:
Cuban coach Leudis Gonzalez offered no apology for Matos’ actions.
“He was too strict,” Gonzalez said, referring to the decision to disqualify Matos.
This is just proof positive that the Olympics are indeed, turning into the WWE. At least he didn’t start doing crotch chops after knocking him TFO. Although, I must admit, there is something inherently funny about a referee that’s wearing a button-up shirt and tie getting superkicked. He looks more like a Kroger store manager than he does a sports official.
“Yes, sir the canned yams are down aisle…”
BAM!
“Canned yam that, bitch.”

Fear not…

That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. In all the pandemonium that follows, the way the Kazakh guy is running around joyously is superb.
Also, before it happens, the commentators talk about the respect and honour in the sport.
SUPERB.

Appreciate the link, leigh. Unfortunately, it comes up “not available in your territory” when I go to it.

I had a really bad feeling that would be the case as soon as I clicked.
Someone ripped it.
