Pete Carroll Has a Sense Of Humor

April 04, 2008 By: rock Category: College football, Rants, Video No Comments →

In the spirit of all the other idiots that treat April 1st like it’s really an f’n holiday for doofuses; Pete Carroll plays an April Fools joke on some members of his team, and especially on defensive end Everson Griffin.  Carroll is such a carefree coach.  It must be really great to play for him, while he imparts all those little life lessons that a young man will need once he goes on to the big time.  You know, things like,  getting (possibly) underage girls drunk; or taking money from agents for your parents while you’re in school, and then possibly marrying Kim Kardashian (not sure which of those is worse), or the many other fine decisions that some of his former players have made.  It’s true, winning cures all ills.

Terrelle Pryor Chooses Ohio State

Terrelle Pryor has chosen Ohio State over Michigan.

I’m pretty indifferent toward this story, other than the fact that I hate Rich Rodriguez, and since Pryor’s kind of sticking it to him, that sort of makes me happy.  Not “pleasantly locked in a hotel room with a naked supermodel and unlimited supply of duct tape” happy, but more like, “I’m glad I got that girl with the chickstache to come home from the bar with me” happy.

It’s amazing isn’t it, that people have been waiting around for months just to find out where a high school kid is going to go to college?  I’m sure that there are Penn State and Michigan blogs that are killing the guy, and you know what?

That’s a good thing.  Pryor has really taken advantage of this whole spectacle to keep his name in the press and to get himself talked about.  And while I’m not about making threats toward high school or college kids, and I hope nobody goes down to that level, he does deserve to be criticized for the way that he has kept himself in the media.  From calling a press conference to announce that he hadn’t made his mind up, to the announcement today, he’s milked this thing for all that it’s worth, and he deserves some constructive criticism because of that.

What Pryor’s going to have to understand is; if he doesn’t succeed at the next level, he will become the poster child for busts everywhere.  If he even coughs on someone in line at the grocery store it’s going to be posted somewhere, and someone is going to have an opinion.  Pryor is a tremendous talent, and that talent can take him a long way.  But Pryor has put himself in a situation where if he does anything short of parting the Ohio River, some people are going to be disappointed.

That, and am I the only one concerned that his name is Terrelle?  That’s like Terrell plus some hot sauce.  As long as he doesn’t cry after losses, I guess the name similarity isn’t a big deal.  Cue standard T.O. crying video:

McFadden Refuses To Pay For Fight Video

According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, former Arkansas running back Darren McFadden has refused to purchase a tape that allegedly shows McFadden involved in a brawl outside of a club on January 10.

The asking price?  Apparently, the price was between 500,000 and 1 million dollars for the tape currently held by Daniel Bryant, who is the owner of Ernie Biggs, which is the bar that let McFadden (underage) and his brother (also underage in).  But of course, the owner of the tape has Run-DMC’s best interests at heart:

“I would still like for Darren to have the tape,” Bryant said. “It’s not too late. I’d rather him have it than anyone else. I would think they would want it. I don’t want to be the guy that makes Darren Mc-Fadden look even worse. That’s not a good spot for me to be in. I already have the black eye, the bad reputation in the face of this happening, and now I’ve been affected monetarily, as well, and so I just felt like I came out on the short end of the stick.”

Bryant also said that he knew people at ESPN that were very interested in getting their hands on the tape, and that he would rather give the tape to McFadden.

No shit, they’re interested, that would run about 1000 times a day, everyday until the draft, and then it would run during the draft.  ESPN gets as excited about videos of athletes in trouble as the internet does for celebrity sex tapes.

Yeah, this guy’s a regular saint.  He’s just looking at D’s future you know.  And at that big, fat signing bonus that McFadden’s going to get in that future.  His club let under-aged kids into it, whatever damages were inflicted, are on him and his club alone.  McFadden should have had better sense than to get himself in this situation, but the idea of having to pay this clown is a joke.

Billy Donovan, Homeless On 1.7 million a Year?

February 16, 2008 By: rock Category: College football, Rants No Comments →

donovan_300_070601.jpg

According to The Big Lead, Florida coach Billy Donovan (Billy D if you’re nasty), is on the verge of having to seek out government assistance, in an attempt to save a home that he must have been smoking crack to have ever thought about purchasing in the first place.

According to HomeGuide123:

By his estimates, the place will end up costing him $30 million after all is said and done.

Donovan’s accountant Ronald Silberstein confirmed the coach’s predicament, adding that it is never a good idea to buy a $6 million piece of property on a 40-year term with no money down–no matter how many staircases the house has.

Now I’m no financial genius, but it doesn’t take Latrell Sprewell to figure out that this was a bad idea from jump street.  40-year term, 6 million, no money down.  Bad, bad, bad, Billy.  Jesus H.  do you have zebra’s and a roller coaster in the backyard?  As for seeking government help: SELL THE FREAKING HOUSE!  You screwed up, you made a bad decision, now get rid of it.  If you can.  Maybe Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl would be interested in buying it? He’s owned Billy’s ass for the last three years anyways.  Cheap shot’s rule!  Especially since Urban Meyer holds the lease on Neyland Stadium, I gotta take shots where I can.

Bo Schembechler Day

February 01, 2008 By: rock Category: College football, Rants No Comments →

According to SportingNews.com:

A state House committee on Thursday approved a bill that would designate the date of the University of Michigan’s first home football game each season Bo Schembechler Day.

In related news sources tell me that West Virginia will designate a yet-to-be-defermined day as, “Stick Rich Rodriguez Into A Meat Grinder And Operate On High Day”.  Not details on the parade to follow or on the holiday menu.
