Site Of The Night-ESPN

May 07, 2008 By: rock Category: ESPN, Site of the Night No Comments →

Fresh off his finish at Richmond, Dale Earnhardt Junior, is tackling the subject that he’s been quiet on for a long time; what it was like being the son of The Intimidator. I’ll give the devil their due; ESPN did a good job with this article, as it’s a great look by Marty Smith into the life of the most popular man in NASCAR and the relationship between Dale and his dad. So ESPN is your Site of the Night. I feel dirty. This post was like walking up to Donald Trump and giving him a dollar.

Until next time,

It’s time to party, but remember,

Hard work and $25,000 might get you this:

But unemployment will get you this:

So work hard.

Beano Cook Thinks Sportswriters Should Be Eligible For Pulitzer Prize

April 11, 2008 By: rock Category: ESPN, Rants No Comments →

Obviously he’s not reading some of the same writers that I am, but Beano Cook thinks that sportswriters should be considered for the Pulitzer Prize. I actually wouldn’t be against that at all. Other than one detail; some of these guys already have bigger egos than I do, (and my ego wears XL condoms), so I can imagine what would happen if they started getting Pulitzer love. I like Beano. He reminds me of when my grandfather used to get drunk off of moonshine cherries and rant about the economy, politics, and the difficulties of eating solid foods. Gotta love old folks. Beano rant after the jump: (more…)

Funny ESPN Headline

This was good enough for a chuckle, taken from the NFL draft headline on ESPN.com:

Darren McFadden had little to prove Tuesday at Arkansas’ pro day workouts. And, as expected the 6-foot-1, 211-pound junior looked strong … from the waist down. Todd McShay Insider
• SportsNation: Mock Draft | Draft Central

Really?  So are we saying that RunDMC could also have a future in the adult entertainment area or what?  You know that the NFL draft has gone too far when the comment “he’s looking strong from the waist down” is used to describe anyone.  Did they grab the mom of D-Mac’s kids for verificiation?  This is really not the way to get me to check out what ESPN Insider is all about.

Duke Vs North Carolina

February 06, 2008 By: rock Category: College Basketball, ESPN No Comments →

Yeah file this as over-hyped.  No matter how much ESPN tries to sell Duke vs North Carolina as the greatest rivalry in sports I’m not buying it.  This rivalry is as over-rated as taking a stripper home.

Can you honestly tell me that people on the West Coast that didn’t go to either college actually give a damn about two college basketball teams on the other side of the freaking continent? Do you think that sports fans in other countries give a damn about this game? Hell, I’m a couple of hundred miles away and I could give a damn about either school or their so-called rivalry.

The truth is it’s just like all other rivalry games; it’s important to the player’s, coaches, and those team’s fans just like every other rivalry game is.  It is important in the context of it’s conference; that’s all.  The only difference is that Dick Vitale gets to scream at me about how great these two teams are, and about how great the match-up always is; please.  It’ll be a pretty good game, but in the end, college basketball really doesn’t matter until the tourney, and these rivalry games don’t mean that much in the grand scheme of things.  And don’t tell me about the history, about the tradition, about the blahblahblah STOP!  That’s my point, I don’t care!  And neither do alot of us.

False Reporting

January 26, 2008 By: rock Category: ESPN, Rants No Comments →

Okay first ESPN said that Tony and Jessica had broken up and now it’s being reported that they are still together.  Then ESPN reported that Layne Kiffen had been asked to resign by the Raiders; now they’re saying that he hasn’t been asked to do any such thing.  Is anybody checking sources?  Don’t they know that those of us who utilize their information to entertain and annoy others are left drifting trying to recoup the lost integrity of our work?  Well maybe not, but it’s still annoying as hell.  Bet both these stories end up being true anyways and Jessica’s spotted with Danny Devito next week and Kiffen’s begging for a coordinator’s job somewhere in the immediate future.
