Rick Reilly Wonders “Where All The Latino Boys At?”

July 14, 2008 By: rock Category: MLB, Video No Comments →

Before Josh Hamilton made the Home Run conquest his own personal love-in; Rick Reilly went into the topic that he should know better than to go into:

Rule #1: Nothing good happens after midnight.

Rule #2: Nothing good comes out of discussing race.

Rule #3: If it hurts you’re doing it wrong.

Rules to live by.

July 12, 2008 By: rock Category: MLB, Video 1 Comment →

Murcer had a 17-year career of which he spent the better part of 13 seasons with the New York Yankees. He was a five-time All-Star, and was also a successful broadcaster with the Yankees.  From MLB.com:

Yankees chairman George M. Steinbrenner issued the following statement upon learning of Murcer’s death:

“Bobby Murcer was a born Yankee, a great guy, very well-liked and a true friend of mine. I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife Kay, their children and grandchildren. I will really miss the guy.”

The cause of death was a malignant tumor that he was diagnosed with in 2006.

Jose Canseco Chimes In On Alex And Madonna

Because you knew that Jose Canseco wasn’t going to let this whole Madonna/A-Rod storm go by without getting a little of the rain on himself:

A-Rod Is Morphing Into Jose Canseco

July 09, 2008 By: rock Category: MLB, Rants No Comments →

What’s the most important part that’s being left out of the whole Madonna/A-Rod alleged affair? How about that Madonna has previously been linked to a baseball player before…let’s see, that’s been laying around here for a while…there it is (opens old and yellow newspaper):

Jose Canseco says his late night get-together with rock star Madonna was an innocent one.

“We’re just friends,” the Oakland Athletics’ outfielder told reporters traveling with the Athletics for their weekend series with the Yankees. “She’s a nice lady.”

Canseco, who recently reconciled with his wife, Esther, was photographed coming out of Madonna’s apartment building in New York early Friday morning.

Canseco wouldn’t say how long he has known Madonna. “Just say we met before,” he said.

That little bit of information was, shockingly enough, from a 1991 New York Times article. What does this tell me? It tells me that of all the people in the world to imitate, A-Rod seems to be dead set upon trying to steal Jose Canseco’s life. First he allegedly hits on Canseco’s wife, then he’s linked to steroids (still don’t buy that one), then he’s caught with a stripper, then he’s caught coming out of Madonna’s apartment. For God’s sake Alex, what’s next? Shooting roids into Jason Giambi’s naked behind? 120 mph driving a Ferrari with a loaded gun in it?

Don’t answer those questions. But, if a pop-up hits him in the head at third base and bounces into the stands; all bets are off.

A-Rod Minus C-Rod Is Going To Equal a Big Mess

July 07, 2008 By: rock Category: MLB, Rants No Comments →

Well, it’s official.  Cynthia Rodriguez filed divorce papers against Alex Rodriguez, claiming among other things, that Rodriguez has “emotionally abandoned” his wife and children:

“The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband’s extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct,” according to Cynthia Rodriguez’s petition for dissolution of marriage, filed Monday in the family division of Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.

I wonder what tipped her off?  It’s not like there were pictures of him coming out of hotels with strippers or anything…Wait.  I do find it funny that it was the Madonna rumors that were the breaking point.  It’s almost like Cynthia was fine with him banging anonymous baseball groupies, but when it became someone famous, she couldn’t handle it.

Funny thing about this, is the way that Alex is mashing at the plate right now.  For someone who apparently doesn’t like pressure, he’s handling all of this distraction remarkably well.  Too bad the Yankees aren’t going to make the playoffs this year (I’ve resigned myself to it) because he might actually come through this year if they did.

Ironic, huh?
