North Carolina Beats Duke

March 09, 2008 By: rock Category: College Basketball, Sports News No Comments →

Hey, why didn’t anyone tell me that Duke and North Carolina played last night?  You would think that ESPN would talk about it at least a little bit before hand.  Now that the sarcasm is out of the way, it actually was a pretty good game.  Tyler Hansbrough showed up big for big blue, and the Tar Heels came away with a 76-68 victory on Duke’s home court.

The WGWG (aka world’s greatest white guy), scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds; while passing the 2000 point mark for his college career.  Not bad, not bad.  He still needs to find a better hobby though.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

With number four going back to Mississippi, I wonder what’s in John Madden’s ipod.

Could it be this:

I never wanted 2 be your weekend lover
I only wanted 2 be some kind of friend
Baby I could never steal u from another
It’s such a shame our friendship had 2 end
Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain
Purple rain Purple rain

I only wanted 2 see u underneath the purple rain

Honey I know, I know, I know times are changing
It’s time we all reach out 4 something new
That means u 2
U say u want a leader
But u can’t seem 2 make up your mind
I think u better close it
And let me guide u 2 the purple rain

Or maybe this:

Touch if u will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside
You’ve got the butterflies all tied up
Don’t make me chase u
Even doves have pride
How can u just leave me standing?
Alone in a world so cold?
Maybe I’m just 2 demanding
Maybe I’m just like my father 2 bold
Maybe you’re just like my mother
She’s never satisfied

Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

Or maybe:

Talkin’ to herself, there’s no one else who needs to know…
She tells herself, oh…
Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to come along…
Swears she knew it, now she swears he’s gone
She lies and says she’s in love with him, can’t find a better man…
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can’t find a better man…
She lies and says she still loves him, can’t find a better man…
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can’t find a better man…
Can’t find a better man
Can’t find a better man
Yeah…

What am I thinking?  Madden probably doesn’t own an ipod.  He probably still sits up at night listening to old Coasters eight-tracks.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course.

For the musically inept, lyrics from: When Doves Cry and Purple Rain (Prince), and Betterman (Pearl Jam)

What I’m Not Going To Cover Today-Plus Your Site Of The Night

March 02, 2008 By: rock Category: Rants, Site of the Night, Sports News No Comments →

There’s nothing going on today that I feel even remotely interested in covering.  But, if you want to watch any of it, and waste some valuable seconds of your miserable little lives; at least there’s some stuff that may keep you off the street.

There’s the NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this afternoon.  Nope.  Races outside the South really have no interest to me.  They just don’t look natural.  The fans don’t know how to react, and it’s mostly like watching a fish taken out of water flop around alot.

I could cover NBA basketball, but other than the Lakers/Mavs game, today is a snooze-fest for the NBA, except of course for whatever team YOU may cheer for (cheap pop).  So no, no NBA today.

Hockey’s on right now, the Rangers and Flyers are playing and the score is…no point, no one would read it and I’d just get some Canadian fans mad with my American lack of knowledge, and general disinterest.

In college basketball, I am currently watching Georgia/LSU, two SEC teams that are so bad that I believe that my retinas are slowly disintegrating with each passing second.  So, there will be no college basketball today.

So those are the things that I will not be covering today.  If something of interest magically happens later, I’ll be back; if not, have fun with the rest of your Sunday, you poor, bored bastards, and I’ll be back to entertain, inflame, and otherwise make a nuisance of myself tomorrow.

In the meantime check out SportsbyBrooks for “intense” coverage of rich white guys who think they can play some ball.

Jason Kidd Traded To Mavericks

February 19, 2008 By: rock Category: NBA, Rants, Sports News No Comments →

Well, the Dallas Mavericks kept trying and trying and they finally got laid.  They finally got the New Jersey Nets to put out, and to give the Mavs what they have been trying so hard to get.

Jason Kidd.

Kidd was traded to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, two cases of skittles, six cans of Red Bull and the corpse of Keith Van Horn (no way that guy’s still alive), as well as, two first-round draft picks.

Nets president Rod Thorn had this to say about Kidd:

“Over the course of time it became very evident that his heart wasn’t in it,” Thorn said. “The kind of player he is, if his heart’s not in it then he’s not the same player, and it became evident to me that his heart wasn’t in it anymore. It just wasn’t going to work.” (FoxSports)

Translation:  “The SOB quit on us and I hope that he burns in hell.”

At least that’s how I take it.
