Auriemma Says Summitt, “Doesn’t Have Courage”

April 24, 2008 By: rock Category: Rants, Women In Sports No Comments →

Who said women’s basketball wasn’t physical?

Continuing the tired story of why the Tennessee/Connecticut series was canceled by Tennessee, UConn Coach Geno Auriemma said that Pat Summitt knows why the series was canceled and said that she “doesn’t have the courage to say it publicly.”.

“Yawn”.

These two fight like my mom and dad used to when bill-paying time came around. Somebody needs to tell Geno that it’s no big secret around Knoxville as to why the series got canceled. You’re a cheat:

UConn officials said in March they self-reported a secondary violation of NCAA rules in connection with a 2005 ESPN studio tour that the women’s basketball office arranged for then-top recruit Maya Moore.

There have also been all kinds of “rumors” about UConn putting Moore’s mom up in a home/condo and giving her a job, but all that is just that, rumors.  In spite of that, I for one was against the cancellation of the series, as there is not a comparable game in women’s basketball in terms of mass appeal, and as a sport that consistently loses money at most of it’s programs, the game needs all of the media attention and money that it can get and the game was bigger than either of these two programs.

I still think they should settle things the way that God and Dana White intended.

In the cage.

Either that, or they need to just get it on and get it over with.

Lady Vols Win NCAA Women’s Championship

April 08, 2008 By: rock Category: Women In Sports No Comments →

Eight is alot; and I don’t care what the game is.  Winning that many championships is impressive. and that is just what Pat Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers did Tuesday night; as they brought home the eighth women’s championship in school history, and made it look easy in the process, closing the tourney down with a 64-48 victory over Stanford; a team that had beaten the Lady Vols earlier in the year.

Playing with a hurt (dislocated) shoulder, Candace Parker scored 17 points, and helped lead the Vols to their second straight NCAA Women’s Championship.  Tomorrow Candace will go on to that league who no one watches and will be the number one pick in their draft, but make no mistake about it, the last two years have been the most successful ones of her basketball career.  She could go on to win five or six WNBA Championships, but these are the two that peeps will remember.

It’s been a pleasure watching Candace over the years. Especially, from a male perspective, as over her three years in college. she has gone from being rather plain and ordinary-looking, to “Damn, did you see her!”.  Congrats ladies.

Danica, Almost Naked…Any Questions

If a picture is worth a thousand words, this one is a worth a copy of War and Peace.  How great would it be if Danica quit toying with our emotions and just took her damn clothes off already?  And by the way; she is never, ever allowed to complain again about not being taken seriously as a driver.  It’s a double-edged sword; if you want respect and not to be treated just as a sex symbol; you can’t keep flaunting your tits every chance that you get.  Not that I mind; because I don’t.  I’m just saying that I don’t think Al Unser did it this way.  Not certain; but I’m pretty sure of that.

SI Swimsuit Issue

February 08, 2008 By: rock Category: Rants, Women In Sports No Comments →

In honor of the release of the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and to pop a very cheap traffic bump by catering to those of you perverts that blew up the site looking for naked pics of Danica Patrick a week or so back:

Damn that takes me back to my younger days, back when there wasn’t rampant porn all over the net and if you wanted to see some fine female flesh you had to sneak a peek at dad’s Playboy; or you had to wait on the swimsuit issue, which you could actually buy on a sports pretense.  Now every nerd with the internet has as much naked flesh as he can shake his stick at.  But for me and mine it was Kathy Ireland who nursed many young Generation X males through very turbulent puberties; mainly through her beautiful smile.  And enormous boobs.  Definitely the boobs.
