I think the color helps but the tile finish makes the biggest difference. Glossy tile surfaces are shiny but they are also resistant to liquids and dirt allowing you to be able to clean them without issue. Especially in the bathroom. And so it is the best option for the bathrooms and wet areas. Personally I think mixing and matching the glossy and matte is fine it will add some contrast but be pretty subtle.
Whether its gloss or matt bathroom wall tiles you will be making a personal decision.
